Tests...

This week mom has lots of tests and appointments to make sure she is well and ready to return to work. She thought she would be able to go back next week but her doctors are ordering a few more things for her to do before she does. She will have blood work done to check her liver, heart, kidneys, etc. and also to check her cholesterol, iron and other levels. It has been 6 months so she will have another PET scan to monitor her cancer and make sure it has not returned. She will have an appointment with Dr. LeBranche to check on her infection and to monitor the progress of her hysterechtomy. She has been experiencing hot flashes which they will also talk about her options for that. Since she had breast cancer, there are not many options that do not involve hormones. The doctors do not want her on hormones because they may lead to a reoccurance of the cancer.

Mom has been doing really good, she is just waiting to hear that everything looks good so she can finally go back to her normal schedule. Hopefully soon Mom!

Halloween pics!

A lil late but here are a couple Halloween pics! We all went to mom's house...

The latest...

So it has been a while since I have posted an update but mom is doing better. She has been slowly healing after the last surgery. She says it has been harder than the brain surgery because of the pain, but she is doing good. A couple of weeks ago her head incision was scabbing and itching a lot so she went into Dr. Spetzler's office to have it looked at. It eneded up being infected so they had to scrape the infection out from the incision and put an antibiotic on it.. OUCH! Mom said it was horrible but it has now healed much better. Just last week she went for her follow-up with Dr. Lebranche, who performed her hysterechtomy. Apparently there is an infection in the lower incision so mom has been put on anti-biotics and she will have another appointment w/ Lebranche again soon to check on it. Because both incisions have been infected we are just trying to boost mom's immune system with lots of vitamins to make sure it doesn't get worse. Other than that, mom is feeling good and looking even better! Her hair looks so good! It's growing fast and its super curly!

On a side note, it will be 1 year since mom's brother Uncle Raul passed away on November 25th so we will be thinking of him this Thanksgiving.

Race 4 the Cure!

1 year...

It has been exactly 1 year, yesterday, that Mom had her breast cancer surgery. It seems crazy because when she was first diagnosed, we could not even picture what life would be like a year later. So much has happened in the past year with Mom's health, so we are praying that the next year will be much better. She was super strong during her 4 surgeries for breast cancer, brain AVM and hysterectomy. Congrats Mommy!!

Update...

Mom is doing much better, but still going to be a long recovery process. For the past couple days she has not been able to walk very well, but that is slowly getting better. She has just been relaxing and trying not to laugh because it hurts her incisions. The incisions are healing really good but she says this whole procedure has been very painful. Mom meets with Dr. Lebranche on Thursday for the post-op appointment.

Hospital...

Mom is still in the hospital. They had her stay an extra night to make sure she was doing ok. Yesterday was a pretty rough day with pain, weakness and dizziness so it was good she stayed another night. Also, her red blood cells were pretty low so they wanted to monitor that as well. The nurses were not nearly as attentive as they should have been so we struggled with that too. We definetely can't wait until she gets out of that hospital and goes home! Probably today because she had a better night last night and looks much better. Get well soon Mommy!

*I will post pictures from the Race 4 the Cure walk tonight!

Went well...

Everything went well with Mom's surgery! Dr. Lebranche said it all went as planned. Last night the nurses were having Mom walk, which was extremely painful for her. She is in a lot of pain, so she is just resting. She will probably go home today from the hospital, but she has not seen a doctor so we are not for sure on that. I will keep everyone posted.

Surgery...

Mom met with Dr. Lebranche today about her October 14th surgery. The doctor decided to perform a full hysterectomy due to mom's age and situation. The surgery is a little more intense so she will have a 2 day stay in the hospital and a 6 week recovery period. It will be at Banner Estrella hospital at 8am... she has to be there at 6am. I will keep everyone posted on how it goes.

Also, my mom says THANK YOU to everyone who is joining us for the Race for the Cure walk on October 11th. About 50 shirts were ordered, so we are super-thankful for the support!!

Hair!

Here is a recent pic of mom without her wig! Her hair is finally growing back, long enough to not wear her wig anymore! It's super curly and really pretty!
