According to Dr. Spetzler, the surgery could not have gone any better! Great news. Mom ended up in surgery for 12 hours, however, because the area of her brain where the AVM is located is so close to her speech region that they wanted to extra careful to not take extra tissue. After about 5 hours yesterday, they gave Mom an angiogram and noticed they did not get all of the AVM, so they re-entered to remove the rest. We were finally able to see her late last night but she is still sedated. She is on a breathing tube because she had been under anesthesia for so long yesterday, but they will try to remove that later today. The nurse woke Mom up briefly in the night to check her repsonses and she was able to nod to questions and move both of her arms and legs. Spetzler says to not be surprised if she has trouble speaking for the next couple of days, but that he expects a full recovery. Thank you Lord. She is in ICU for a couple days to monitor the bleeding also, because the 2 days after are so crucial. The camera crew was filming the entire day yesterday and will be in again today. I will update as soon as I know more.
Mom is in neuro ICU @ St. Joseph's... park @ 6th avenue garage, enter through main entrance, take elevators to 4th floor, go right and it is room 4N35. I am not sure how long she will be in this room or how many visitors are allowed in ICU but we will be here all day today. Thank you for everyone's prayers.
